WRITING IN A FLASH! w/ CHRISTIAN HENDERSON
WRITING IN A FLASH! w/ CHRISTIAN HENDERSON
Thursday, February 12, 2026, 6:30pm-8:30pm ET , In Person at the Flatiron Writers Room, 5 Covington St., Asheville, NC 28806
This class is FREE to our Western NC writing community thanks to our partnership with the Western Carolina University English Studies MA program.
Flash fiction/non-fiction is a unique form of writing that creates a sense of urgency through its limited word count (typically between 300-1,000 words). It helps the writer capture one moment, almost like taking a picture. Plus, it can be a bit more accessible for the busy writer!
In this 2-hour workshop, we will:
Discuss how to evoke emotion and discomfort with a limited number of words
Brainstorm how you can use this writing format for fiction and non-fiction works
Create a rough draft of a flash fiction or non-fiction piece and get feedback through peer review.
Christian Henderson is an English graduate student at Western Carolina University. She has published two works of flash non-fiction in the Walnut Branch and is working on an upcoming novel. She has a passion for writing and teaching and is hoping to become an English professor after graduation.
