Fiction, creative non-fiction and memoir writers, get your writing on track in the New Year with these six weekly sessions with Heather Newton, Tuesdays 4pm to 5:30pm starting February 24, 2026. We will meet in person at the Flatiron Writers Room unless Asheville City Schools cancels classes due to inclement weather, in which case we will convene on Zoom. Over the course of the six weeks we will read together selected scenes from screenplays including Little Miss Sunshine, Sideways, American Fiction and others. We’ll spend the first 15 minutes of class discussing that week’s assigned scene, which you will use as a template for that day’s writing on your work in progress (or you can come prepared with your own “writing assignment”). We will then spend an hour writing communally, with time at the end to share. After the last class session we’ll head to a nearby eatery to celebrate what we’ve created (food and drink cost not included). We hope you’ll leave this class with new pages and new writer friends! Space limited to 8 students.
