Let this be the summer you make headway on that novel, with individual instruction from award-winning novelist Heather Newton. The first week of May, you’ll have an hour-long interview (choose between in-person and Zoom) in which Heather will ask you interview questions designed to get you thinking about all aspects of your novel. You’ll then have hard deadlines to turn in up to 20 pages for written feedback, with your beginning pages due June 1, a climax chapter due July 1, and your ending pages due August 1 (no excuses). Your summer coaching will end with a half-hour session (on Zoom) the first week of August to help you create a roadmap to finish your novel. This class will be most helpful to writers who have not yet completed a first draft. Limited to six students. Click HERE for a short video from Heather describing how the sessions will work.

Heather Newton’s novel Under The Mercy Trees (HarperCollins 2011) won the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Literary Award, was chosen by the Women’s National Book Association as a Great Group Reads Selection and named an “Okra Pick” by the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance. Her second novel The Puppeteer’s Daughters (Turner Publishing 2022) won the NC Indie Author Project Book Award, was a finalist for the Forword INDIES Book of the Year Award (General Fiction category), and was optioned for television. Her short story collection McMullen Circle (Regal House 2022), was a  finalist for both the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Literary Award and the W.S. Porter prize. She teaches creative writing for UNC-Asheville’s Great Smokies Writing Program, is a faculty mentor for the Charlotte Lit Authors Lab, and is co-founder and Program Manager for the Flatiron Writers Room.  www.heathernewton.net
