We're often told to write vivid, lifelike, cinematic scenes, whether in our novels, nonfiction, memoir, or essays. But how do you do that effectively? What elements work most effectively to bring a place and the action within it to life? How can we immerse our readers in a moment while also accessing the narrator or characters' interiority, whether they're fictional or real-life? And how do you identify those moments that need scenes versus can be shared with exposition?

In this generative, interactive 2-SESSION workshop—which is great for emerging and established writers—you'll:

  • Craft and revise at least two brand-new scenes

  • Receive feedback from your instructor and peers

  • Learn a framework you can apply to future scenes, and practice it with exercises

  • Ask questions and talk about writing in a supportive, constructive atmosphere
