In this two-hour Zoom session with literary agent Maggie Cooper, we’ll explore the art of the pitch, focusing on how to craft a pithy and inviting description of your book and select comparable titles to position your project. We’ll discuss the importance of these tools in presenting your writing to potential agents, publishers, and readers; dig into some common “do”s and “don’t”s; and complete several exercises designed to put you on the path to the perfect pitch. This class will be focused on book-length projects across genres and will be suitable for writers of fiction and nonfiction for both adults and younger readers.
Maggie Cooper is an agent with Aevitas Creative Management, representing adult fiction and select nonfiction projects with an emphasis on queer and trans stories and books that make our world kinder, weirder, more joyful, or all of the above. She holds a degree in English from Yale University, attended the Clarion Writers Workshop, and earned her MFA in fiction from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she served as an editor for The Greensboro Review. Maggie is also a writer; her prose chapbook, The Theme Park of Women’s Bodies, was published by Bull City Press in 2024.
