CO-WORKING AND COVID-19

CO-WORKING AT THE FLATIRON WRITERS ROOM

WE WILL CONTINUALLY RE-EVALUATE AND MONITOR THE COVID AND GENERAL PUBLIC HEALTH SITUATION AS THINGS PROGRESS.

CURRENTLY, PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO RESERVE THEIR BLOCKS OF TIME AND ROOM CHOICE ONLINE PRIOR TO ARRIVAL.

THERE ARE THREE DIFFERENT SPACES: THE BLUE OFFICE (“BLUE”), THE DINING/CONFERENCE ROOM (“PEACH”), AND THE MAIN ROOM (“GREEN”).

WE HAVE A BI-WEEKLY DISINFECTING AND CLEANING SCHEDULE FOR THE BUILDING.

ALL CO-WORKERS MUST OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING RULES:

  • PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND IF YOU ARE SICK OR SYMPTOMATIC IN ANY WAY, OR HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS SICK OR SYMPTOMATIC.

  • WE WILL MAKE OUR BEST EFFORTS (SUBJECT TO SHORTAGES) TO PROVIDE HAND SANITIZER AND DISINFECTING WIPES IN THE SPACE, BUT PLEASE BE SURE YOU BRING SOME WITH YOU IN CASE WE RUN OUT.

COMMON SENSE PRECAUTIONS:

NCDHHS ENCOURAGES PEOPLE TO TAKE COMMON SENSE PRECAUTIONS TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF ALL INFECTIOUS DISEASES:

  • WASH HANDS FREQUENTLY WITH SOAP AND WATER FOR AT LEAST 20 SECONDS AT A TIME, ESPECIALLY AFTER COUGHING, SNEEZING OR PRIOR TO EATING.

  • AVOID TOUCHING YOUR EYES, NOSE AND MOUTH WITH UNWASHED HANDS.

  • AVOID CLOSE CONTACT WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE ILL.

  • COVER YOUR MOUTH AND NOSE WITH A TISSUE WHEN YOU COUGH OR SNEEZE. DISCARD TISSUE IN A TRASH CAN IMMEDIATELY.

  • CLEAN AND DISINFECT ANY SURFACES THAT ARE FREQUENTLY TOUCHED.

FWR Statement and Policies on

coronavirus disease 2019 (abbreviated COVID-19):

UPDATE AS OF 3/27/2020:

due to the stay-at-home order issued by buncombe county, co-working at the fwr will be closed until the order is lifted. we will be freezing any Co-Working contract commitments starting April 1 until co-workers are able to utilize the space again. stay home and stay safe!

UPDATE AS OF 3/17/2020:

We at the FWR will continue to monitor this developing situation closely, relying on guidance and information from trusted sources (see links to trusted sources below).

In the meantime, we are making temporary changes to our policies and practices as described below:

  • ALL LIVE CLASSES ARE CANCELED; MANY CLASSES WILL STILL BE AVAILABLE IN A ZOOM FORMAT; CHECK SCHEDULE FOR SPECIFICS

  • If you registered for a class before the format change, you will receive an email with specific information about your options, including a full refund if you decide to opt for that.

  • Our current refund policy will remain in effect, but students who wish to cancel their attendance after the refund deadline will be given the option of participating in the class remotely via THE online platform ZOOM.

AS A REMINDER, OUR CURRENT REFUND POLICY STATES:

REFUND POLICY: The Flatiron Writers Room reserves the right to cancel this workshop if not enough people sign up, in which case you will receive a full refund. You may request a refund up until one week before the class starts via Eventbrite or email to flatironwritersroom[at]gmail.com for a full tuition refund (Eventbrite will not refund its fees). After that date, no refunds will be made. We do not give credit for future classes/events in lieu of refunds under this policy.

CO-WORKING:

ALTHOUGH ALL LIVE CLASSES ARE CANCELED, WE WILL CONTINUE TO ALLOW CO-WORKING MEMBERS TO USE THE FWR SPACE AS LONG AS THEY OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING RULES:

  • We ask that students not attend if they are sick or have been exposed to someone they know is sick;

  • WE ASK THAT ALL CO-WORKERS MAINTAIN THE 6-FOOT SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES WHEN ANY OTHER CO-WORKERS ARE PRESENT;

  • We ask that students refrain from shaking hands and hugging, and follow the common sense guidelines listed below. We will make our best efforts (subject to shortages) to provide hand sanitizer in the space. Students ARE ASKED TO bring their own sanitizer and disinfectant wipes AS WE CAN’T KEEP UP WITH SUPPLY.

  • OUR PROFESSIONAL CLEANING SERVICE, GREENBEE CLEANING, HAS ASSURED US THAT THEY “ARE paying extra attention to wiping down door handles, light switches, public appliances, etc.  We have always carried 99% isopropyl alcohol on us and that is what use to sanitize those surfaces.  we will continue to read up on clinical trials and research as scientists gain more clarity.  Our staff has been instructed to wash hands even more than normal and to stay home if they are feeling under the weather.”

Common Sense Precautions:

NCDHHS encourages people to take common sense precautions to prevent the spread of all infectious diseases:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds at a time, ESPECIALLY AFTER COUGHING, SNEEZING OR PRIOR TO EATING.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are ill.

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. discard TISSUE in a trash can immediately.

  • Clean and disinfect surfaces that are frequently touched.

These precautions are also helpful in preventing the spread of common illnesses such as influenza.
