The Flatiron Writers Room is housed in a two-story 1920s Arts & Crafts bungalow with a veranda front porch and rear deck. This prime location is just off Haywood Road, the main street of West Asheville, the site of numerous pubs, restaurants and retail stores.
The interior of the building retains all of its 1920s vintage charm, including original molding and architectural detailing, hardwood floors, vintage windows, built-in bookcases and a fireplace, creating a warm and inviting ambience for writer events.
The classroom/event space currently available for rent is actually two adjacent rooms connected by French doors:
- The original living room of the house (22' x 14'), which can seat up to 20 for audience-style events or approximately 15 people if tables are used, classroom-style.
- A second room (the former dining room, 12'x14') in which we have a large conference table which can seat 10-12 people.
Because of the potential sound overlap from each room, the rooms are not used simultaneously for different events but can be used together.
In addition, there is a kitchenette with a toaster oven, fridge, coffeemaker and microwave, a small reception area adjoining the kitchen, and a handicap-accessible restroom. Central heat and air conditioning plus overhead ceiling fans in every room provide a comfortable environment no matter what the season.
Tables and chairs are available onsite to set up the rooms in any way that works for your class or event.
We are the big yellow house just behind UpCountry Brewing and Restaurant (formerly Altamont Brewing). We have off-street parking for 8 cars plus one handicap-accessible parking space and wheelchair ramp access, with overflow parking across the street.
